The inventive fabrics— now a Jonathan Simkhai hallmark—were inspired by heirloom samples and formulas belonging to Simkhai’s grandfather who once owned a lace and embroidery factory. Still, the collection is as much about architectural silhouettes and innovative construction as it is about unfolding a fairy tale—a fantasy of nomads who roam the monochromatic urban tundra. Fur adds a soft textural glamour and volume, providing a protective layer, while Simkhai’s dramatic floor length gowns create a feminine and powerful sculpted silhouette. There are layers upon layers, but once stripped away, you are left with intricate lace that floats delicately away from the body. Under all the layers lies the truth: Simkhai’s deep adoration for his women.
